Websites to visit and lesson ideas for the month of December.
Crafts can make a great addition to the Winter/Holiday learning of homeschoolers. Many craft ideas abound, making it hard to choose sometimes!
- FamilyFun, a magazine and a website, is a great place to find seasonal crafts, food, games, and decorating ideas. familyfun.go.com/
- Enchanted Learning offers many crafts and worksheets for the holiday season, as well as all year-round. You must be a suscriber, but the yearly fee is a reasonable $20. Go to www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.html
- All Free Crafts offers many craft ideas, ranging from easy to moderate skill levels. www.allfreecrafts.com/christmas/
- For Santa fans, be sure to visit the North Pole, at www.northpole.com/. There is a lot to explore there. One of the best features - a Santa Tracker on December 24.
- The Best Kids Booksite features crafts and book ideas. www.thebestkidsbooksite.com/snowcrafts.cfm
What other fun winter activities?
- Try to make the perfect Hot Chocolate. Research some recipes and play around with the ingredients in the quest for the richest, most delicious hot cocoa!
- For older children (middle school and above) - Santa in the Movies - There are so many movies out there that feature different ideas and aspects on the Santa story. Watch some, then write a review of each movie. Write a paper or put together a project discussing the many sides of Santa.
- As a family, watch commercials for the holday season, and discuss commercial tacticts. Try to identify who each commercial targets and how they target them.
- Take a winter walk.
- Do a good deed for others.
