Homeschool magazines, newspapers for homeschoolers and other homeschool publications provide support for families that homeschool, delivered regularly.

Homeschool moms often appreciate the support that comes in the form of a real magazine that can be held in hand and read in a waiting room. Homeschooling magazines and other publications, like newsletters and homeschool newspapers provide support, insightful articles and often a sense of community for homeschooling families, no matter where they live.

Secular Homeschooling Magazines

Home Education Magazine is the oldest secular homeschooling publication on the market, and was first printed in 1984 by Washington State homeschooling parents Helen and Mark Hegener. Launched in 2008, Secular Homeschooling Magazine is a bimonthly publication. Life Learning, founded by Wendy Priesnitz and the quarterly Homeschooler's Guide are also secular, as is The Link. The Home Educator's Family Times is also secular.

Christian Homeschool Magazines

Predictably, there are several Christian magazines for homeschoolers. Heart of the Matter, Homeschooling Today, Home School Enrichment and This Old Schoolhouse are magazines that cater to the needs of Christian Homeschoolers. In addition, curriculum developers like Sonlight, Bob Jones and Abeka distribute regular publications as well.

Unschooling Magazines

The Organized Unschooler is a weekly email newsletter for unschool inspiration. Bob Collier's Parental Intelligence Newsletter is a monthly newsletter that's not exclusively for unschooling, but very open to natural learning and focuses on non coercive discipline and peacefu parenting. Natural Child, Natural Life and LifeLearning Magazines are geared more toward unschoolers than regimented homeschoolers. Both Natural Child and Life Learning are online only. Growing Without Schooling, John Holt's original unschooling publication is no longer in publication, but past issues are often available from collectors on ebay. Home Educator's Family Times also publishes a number of unschooling oriented articles.

Homeschool Newspapers and Newsletters

Homeschooling newsletters are often distributed free of charge to members of state homeschool associations, legal watchdog groups and other homeschool related nonprofit organizations. Curriculum providers, charter schools and private homeschooling umbrella groups also print and distribute newsletters to their members.

The Link, which once proclaimed itself as “The Nation's Homeschooling Newspaper” has expanded in recent years and is now “The Nation's Homeschooling Magazine.” Subscriptions are inexpensive and available in a hard copy and digital format.

Electronic Homeschooling Newsletters by Email

In addition to being an environmentally friendly way to distribute a newsletter, webmasters and internet marketers often provide email newsletters as a way of keeping site traffic high and providing an extra avenue of advertising revenue. Several homeschool email newsletters are available for free. Email newsletters can be a source of inexpensive, regular exposure to homeschooling articles, resources and news. For support without an annual subscription fee, subscribe to free homeschooling email newsletters online.

Homeschooling newsletters, magazines, email newsletters and newspapers can bring joy to families who feel secluded or isolated. A printed article is easier to carry in a purse and hand to pushy relatives, and more convenient than email homeschooling newsletters for busy moms. Additionally, homeschool magazine writers are often veteran homeschoolers with plenty of wisdom to share.
