Create an Effective Homeschool ScheduleHow to Plan for Subjects and Extras Throughout Each Day
It Is important to have a schedule when you are homeschooling your children. There needs to be a sense of order to make the day run smoothly.
Get your kids up, dressed, and prepare a healthy, hearty breakfast in the morning. These are the beginning ingredients for a successful day of homeschooling. Children really do work best when there is a schedule to follow. It provides a sense of expectations, which makes a homeschooling day run more smoothly. Try and stick with your schedule. You will be more efficient, and your kids will be able to meet the goals set. Planning Your Homeschooling ScheduleYou will need to know what is required by your state when it comes to hours of homeschooling and planning a schedule. Some states do not require any set number of hours for teaching, while others do keep record of this time. You want to be sure you are following your specific state regulations. Sit down and figure out how much time needs to be spent for each subject. Some subjects will require more time than others. Be sure to add in time for lunch. A field trip counts as instruction, be sure to include field trips throughout the school year. The basic subjects are math, reading, science, and history. Some states require other subjects than just the basics. Check with your state requirements and make sure you are teaching your children all they need to know. Plus, you will need to know what subjects are required, so you can plan your daily schedule effectively. In order for your children to have a solid all-around education, add in art, music, and physical education. Even though these subjects are not required, they are important, and may help your child discover what makes them happy, and what they may want to be when they grow up. You can add in any other special classes you and your children may be interested in, such as a cooking class. It would be nice to have a different "special class" each day that your child looks forward to. These classes are generally referred to as electives. Finally, put the schedule down on paper. This may take a few tries. Once you have your schedule and try it out, you may find you are spending too much time on one subject or not enough time on other. Adjust your schedule until you have it the way you want. A Sample Schedule for the Homeschooling FamilyHere is a sample schedule to give you an idea of how the day would go.
